On the social networks, images of cats are spreading like wildfire, attracted by the rectangles drawn on the floor, they decide to stay in the center of the imaginary area, paying attention not to exceed the delimitation of the space with parts of the body. Why are felines drawn to a rectangle? Meanwhile, the bosses are spreading photos online, making them the most viral ever in the mici sector. But let’s see the reasons for this singular behavior, which would also answer the question of how cats love boxes. A box and a rectangle can be really equivalent, or there are other reasons why these extraordinary animals prefer these particular objects and designs on the floor.
Cats love the boxes to die and surely the masters know it well: no feline, in front of a box or in a container left unattended, does not stick to a long sleep, even for hours. At first, it was assumed that the cat felt protected by the hiding place since a box looks like a comfortably sheltered doghouse, but after having reproduced it in an imaginary way by drawing a confined space on the floor. From the images on the web, you see some owners who have placed a frame or insulating tape on the ground or have simply drawn the rectangles with colored chalks. The result is always the same: the cats will enter the reproduced area, adapting its position according to the space available. Just as if it were inside a box. Moreover, the cat has a body adaptable to every shape and size. And it is also for this reason that our little pelosetti sometimes gets into trouble, maybe getting stuck in a small box or who knows where.
This behavior of cats is similar to that of the same with boxes: inside the containers, the feline can hide and feel protected from external stimuli and reducing its alert levels, as it escapes the sight of its predators. Studies conducted in the Netherlands on felines housed in a shelter, it has been shown that the specimens that had a box or shelter at their disposal are more serene, less stressed and suffering from fewer behavioral problems. Insulating tape and drawings on the floor that reproduce the rectangles satisfy the same need, even if they do not have real walls and adequate protection. In fact, they stimulate a sense of security in the cat compared to the external environment, for this reason, the animal slips in, triggering the desire to take viral pictures to post online.
