Q and A with the Vocational Coach
|
Welcome to your new community, The Vocational Coach. This place will represent what feels like a lifetime of curiosity around what I call vocational passion. That is spending the majority of your day doing what feels like meaningful and fulfilling work, giving you a sense of energy, happiness, while aligning your abilities and interests and providing your main source of income as necessary. For 25 years in corporate America I have observed far too many people who have given themselves up to the larger organization for some future reward. Unfortunately, I have also seen in the process, these same people give up their hopes, their dreams, their passions and most importantly, any possibilities of doing what they love and what makes them most happy. Yes, I believe it is also possible to have these things in corporate life as well but it still requires looking at one's self from the inside out. It requires a re-examination of one's purpose, values and beliefs. It also requires one to look at their capabilities since we all know what we are good at. It requires an understanding of what one's behavior is throughout the day. Do you wear a work mask during the day and then at night change your mask as you would your clothes when coming home at night. I have found in my experience and research that when one puts their dreams into motion, they become a magnet for what they want in life. It requires though a clear understanding of what one's perfect vocational day would actually be like if indeed you had the chance! Otherwise, if you don't know where you are going, any road will get you there but it may not be the right road for you. Given today's environment of layoffs and many corporate environments where your passions aren't important to the bottom line, it's critical for you to take charge. If you do, you can and will make your vocational passions come alive which will change your life and those around you in many positive ways. This on-line community is meant to be your on-going friend, coach and resource for making your perfect vocational day come alive... Like a lemonade stand on a hot, dry dusty day, my desire is that you quench your thirst for finding and living your vocational passion from my work and this new on-line community. Either way, I'll be with you day in and day out on your journey. It should be great fun! Craig Nathanson- The Vocational Coach- February 2003
