Cats with paranormal powers: reality or fiction?
According to Rupert Sheldrake, Cambridge University biologists, cats, and dogs would have (almost) paranormal powers, for example foreseeing natural disasters, and managing to perceive people’s emotions and moods in advance.
Among the main stories told by the biologist stands out that of a neighboring widow who had a son of a sailor who forgot to let her know when he would return home. Well, it seems that the cat - extremely fond of the young - a couple of hours before his arrival would sit on the mat to wait for him. A sort of sixth sense that allowed the cat to guess the time of arrival.
Furthermore, the biologist declares that cats can perceive the exact moment when the owners have died or have had a serious accident. Real met psychic power that - according to the scholar - should be exploited by human beings in order to foresee natural catastrophes.
As can be largely understood, the study has not received much sympathy in scientific circles, where the analysis has been received with much skepticism and a bit of hilarity. What do you think? What is your experience on the subject?
How do cats mate?
The amorous and sexual behavior of cats is characterized by a rather long courtship, and by an act of true mating which is very short. According to the most recent scientific observations, in fact, the coupling of cats lasts between 5 and 15 seconds, with the male assuming a dominating position with respect to the female: the salt on the back and with the legs tries to favor the best posture for the final goal.
Not only: the domination position on the female also has a practical implication, however apparently not very romantic. Prevent the female from becoming excessively nervous due to any discomfort shown during the act: behavior that is anything but rare!
However, once the act is finished, the nesting of the fertilized eggs will take place within two days of mating, and the kittens born in the same birth may also belong to two different fathers. Finally, as cats live in groups, it is worth noting how a sort of “synchronization” occurs between the females’ inspiration: a very useful synergy to allow a better order of births and thus allow common breeding of young people.
